I wrote a song that is loosely based on the poem I recently wrote and posted, titled, "A Fickle Heart".
The song lyrics detail the journey of a woman who witnessed and experienced the Light of Christ but instead of pursuing that Light, she ventured off to try to carve out her own pathway to enlightenment and righteousness. As circumstances in her life and in the world change and the pressure mounts, she eventually realizes that her own way to find peace is not working. She feels like she's unravelling and coming undone to the point where she finally gets on her knees and begs God to change her and give her a new heart that is open to accepting Christ and doing things God's way. Although she's not sure of how to fully surrender and walk with God, she's ready to rest in His arms and let Him teach and guide her.
You can have a listen to the song here:
"Ready to Rest" - composed by Jessica Blake
I looked at the Light but the Light was too bright
So, I stumbled away and found my own way but something didn't feel right
Nowhere left to turn and nowhere left to run
I tried my own way and to my dismay my life has come undone
Chorus: So, I'm on my knees begging You, please, to replace my heart of stone
Cause' I'm so tired and the world's on fire. I can't face it on my own
I'm ready to rest in Your arms
And I confess I've come undone
If I gave you my life can I give You my strife?
Will You take all the pain and all of my shame and turn me round' again?
What can I do and what could I possibly say to thank You, dear Lord,
for the truth and Your life and a brand new start and day?
Chorus: So, I'm on my knees begging You, please, to replace my heart of stone
I'm ready to say, "I can't do it my way and I need you my dear Lord"
I'm ready to rest in Your arms
And I confess You're the only One
