Breaking cycles of shame

So many women carry silent struggles with body image issues and not feeling "good enough". Many women feel as though they are not good enough mothers, daughters, wives, friends, and that their body is not fit enough or skinny or toned enough. Somehow women have beleived the lie that we should be able to handle everything on our own without seeking support and without seeking guidance from the One who made us.
This internalized shame can create a heavy burden, making it difficult to share their feelings and experiences with others. In this honest and faith-centered conversation, I sit down with Taegan, a resident counselor with extensive experience in mental health, and Michelle Rodriguez (the podcast interviewer and the founder of "ROOTED & THRIVING MAMA"). We explore the intricate ways in which shame can distort our self-perception and hinder our ability to seek help. By bringing these struggles into the light, we can begin the process of healing and understanding. Throughout our discussion, we share personal experiences that resonate with many—stories of grappling with anxiety, navigating the often isolating journey of postpartum depression, and confronting the challenges of disordered eating.
Each of these experiences requires a significant amount of courage to acknowledge and even more bravery to seek help. Moreover, we emphasize the powerful intersection of faith and mental health care, discussing how these two aspects of life can coexist and support one another rather than being seen as mutually exclusive. Therapy is often misperceived as a sign of weakness or failure; however, we highlight that seeking therapeutic support is, in fact, a courageous step towards healing and self-discovery. We also reflect on the profound truth that God meets us right where we are, in our struggles and pain, offering grace and understanding.
If you’ve ever felt embarrassed about your struggles or found yourself afraid to ask for help, this conversation is specifically for you. It serves as a reminder that you are not alone in your feelings, and that there is no shame in seeking support. We invite you to join us as we create a safe space for vulnerability and openness, encouraging all women to embrace their journeys toward healing and self-acceptance.
